Magic Knight Rayearth New Anime Announces Additional Cast for Princess Emeraude, Zagato, and Mokona After 29 Years

The new TV anime marks the first new Magic Knight Rayearth anime in 29 years since the 1997 OVA. Saori Hayami will play Princess Emeraude, Yuki Ono will play Zagato, and Mika Kikuchi will play Mokona, all of whom are important characters in the story.

The series will also take part in Anime Expo 2026, one of the largest anime events in North America, held from July 2 to July 5. A world premiere screening of Episodes 1 and 2 will be held on July 4 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. local time, which is July 5 from 4:00 a.m. to 5:20 a.m. Japan time. Rie Takahashi, who plays Fuu Hououji, and Saori Hayami, who plays Princess Emeraude, will appear at the event.

Additional Character Introductions and Cast Comments

Emeraude, voiced by Saori Hayami, is the princess of Cephiro. As the Pillar, she constantly prays for the peace and order of Cephiro and protects the world. When Cephiro faces the threat of collapse, she summons the Magic Knights to seek their help.

Saori Hayami commented that CLAMP’s stories, characters, and dialogue have moved her heart many times and given her great strength. She said it is a heartfelt honor to take part in the Reiwa era Magic Knight Rayearth. With respect for a work that has been loved for many years, she approached the recording with trusted cast members while trying to let Princess Emeraude’s delicate emotions come through in her voice. She added that she hopes viewers will look forward to the broadcast.

Zagato, voiced by Yuki Ono, was a Sol priest who protected Princess Emeraude. However, he is said to have imprisoned her while plotting the collapse of Cephiro, and he orders the elimination of the Magic Knights.

Yuki Ono commented that he is playing Zagato, saying with excitement that this is the Zagato from Rayearth. He said the bar was extremely high from the audition stage, which made the role all the more rewarding, and that he was deeply happy when he heard he had passed. While there are many things he cannot discuss yet, he said he hopes to perform the role while staying close to Zagato’s own wish, and he hopes viewers will watch his story unfold.

Mokona, voiced by Mika Kikuchi, is a creature entrusted to the Magic Knights by Clef and travels with them. Mokona is bright and lovable, but also a deeply mysterious being.

Mika Kikuchi commented that Mokona Modoki from Tsubasa Chronicle marked the beginning of her career as a voice actor. Looking back, it feels like the time passed in an instant, but more than 20 years have gone by. She said she had wished to meet Mokona again someday and was surprised that it had actually come true. Mokona always gives her courage and energy. She said she is now on a new journey with the three pure, strong, and beautiful Magic Knights, and she hopes viewers will warmly watch over them. Her heart remains unchanged from those days, and she will perform the role with sincerity.
