Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo in Ikebukuro to Reopen Around September After Temporary Closure Following Fatal Stabbing Incident

Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo, located inside the Sunshine City commercial complex in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, has announced that it plans to reopen around September. The store had been temporarily closed since March 27 following a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on March 26.

The announcement has brought relief among fans online, with comments such as, “It is later than I expected, but I am truly glad they are reopening at all.”

On the official website, the store announced, “Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo will remain temporarily closed for the time being. We currently plan to resume operations around September 2026.”

Fans Express Relief After Reopening Plan Is Announced

With the store now expected to reopen for the first time in about half a year, fans have shared mixed but largely supportive reactions online.

Store Had Been Closed After March Incident

At around 7:15 p.m. on March 26, an incident occurred at Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo in which a woman in her 20s was stabbed by a man with what appeared to be a knife. The man also stabbed himself near the neck. Both were transported to a hospital unconscious, where their deaths were later confirmed.

Following the incident, the store had remained temporarily closed. At the time, the store stated, “In connection with the incident that occurred on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo inside Sunshine City in Higashi Ikebukuro, Toshima Ward, Tokyo, we will temporarily close for the time being, prioritizing full cooperation with the police and the physical and mental care of our staff. We will announce the timing of reopening at a later date.”
