"Demon Slayer" — That’ll Make You Cry… Heart-Wrenching 2-Shot of Gyomei Himejima & the Girl. Fans in Tears Over Official Illustration by Ufotable: “So Bittersweet…” “What a Beautiful Drawing.”

To celebrate the release of the highly popular anime Demon Slayer:– Infinity Castle Arc: Part 1 – Akaza Returns, an illustration of the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, was shared on Ufotable’s official X (formerly Twitter). The artwork is so moving, it’s enough to bring you to tears.

The illustration shows Gyomei with a gentle smile, and in the background, you can also see the silhouettes of Gyomei and the young girl who appeared in his past arc.

Demon Slayer is based on the immensely popular manga that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020. Set in the Taisho era, in a world where man-eating demons exist, it tells the story of a boy named Tanjiro Kamado, whose family is slaughtered by demons. He joins the Demon Slayer Corps to avenge them and find a way to turn his demonized sister, Nezuko, back into a human. The manga’s total worldwide circulation recently surpassed 220 million copies.

From April to September 2019, the TV anime Demon Slayer – Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc aired and became a major sensation. The film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, released in October 2020, went on to become a social phenomenon, grossing approximately 51.7 billion yen worldwide.

The franchise has since expanded into games and stage productions. The anime continued with the Entertainment District Arc in December 2021, the Swordsmith Village Arc in April 2023, and the Hashira Training Arc from May to June 2024. Now, the story moves to the big screen with a trilogy adaptation of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc. The first installment, Infinity Castle Arc: Part 1 – Akaza Returns, follows Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps as they face off in a final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji and the Upper Rank demons within the demon stronghold, Infinity Castle. The film is currently showing in 452 theaters (393 standard screens and 59 IMAX).
